A story about my mom

The other night mom was doing her crossword puzzles and I asked her how she got started doing them. Here's her story. She was working at a soda shop. As she walked to work each day she passed a book store with a window display showing the books available...of course. She noticed a crossword puzzle book and just kind of wondered about it for awhile. At one point the book was open for the public to see what was inside. She studied it and thought to herself..."That is something I could do..." It still took awhile, but eventually she actually went into the store and bought her first crossword puzzle book. She still enjoys working those crossword puzzles even though it takes great effort because it is hard for a lefty to write with the right hand.

I remember when she came for a visit when I was in elemetary school. I knew she was a crossword wiz and I wanted her to do my crossword puzzle homework. So I coyly asked her to help me, hoping she would just take over. She yes and "we" got started. Then she asked me if it was homework and then she said I had to do it. I was so bummed.

That really is an adorable story. And she's darn good at them. When she was at my parents' house for Thanksgiving, she helped Haley with a few puzzles and got the most obscure answers right. What a handy resource!

I do crossword puzzles every night in bed. When Mark turns down my covers, he always sets my crossword book on my pillow. I enjoy them, but more that that I love that it's a hobby I share with my G-Ma. I'm not nearly as good as she is, but perhaps I will be one day . . .
